Some trucking fails are simply mistakes, this one is lazy, and stupid

I never thought to ask, but why the hell aren't truckers putting back up cameras on their trailers? Why don't they do this for their driving record and insurance, and why don't the trucking company owners do this so their trailers aren't getting wrecked and insurance paying out?

  1. Lazy and stupid? You mean the driver, or the guy who made the video? Because the guy should step out of his car and stop the truckdriver when it was obvious she will kill a tree and damage the truck and the pickup... 8-( He had plenty of time to do this. Or the other person in the car, because I doubt he could making a video and clapping at the same time.

    1. those too, but the driver, of the semi, was too lazy or stupid to use the rest of the parking lot, that we can see past the semi trailer and cab, we can see it's a wide open lot in direct from of the cab, and that there is a way into that section of the parking lot by looking at where the curb ends, we can also see at the beginning of the video a car pulling up behind the trailer that makes a left in the area the trucker THOUGHT his trailer was backing into, and that car makes a right, further evidence that the trucker could have went further up the lane of traffic the camera operator is in, and turned around in an open deserted area. 2. OK, I see what you mean. Agree: That maneuver was plain stupid. Sitting there and watching the show and not prevent the damage is plain stupid and mean.

Camera: Hmmm... Jesse, this idea of yours of the trailer cameras are not bad at all! Today, when the wireless data transfer technologies are cheap, the HD quality, rugged cameras are affordable it would be easy to develop such a device, paired with a quality and affordable, everyday tablet in the cab, which is capable of recording and good for other tasks as well, such as navigation, internet coummunication... With a clever design, a small camera could be mounted on any trailer with magnets, strong enough to keep the device on place during the ride, and the driver could easily remove it in a parking lot to avoid theft or change batteries. Also good for security as well. (Is anyone following me?) But you need insurance companies and/or NTSB to back the project.

Anyway, if you make big bucks with your clever idea, please don't forget to throw me a bone, OK? 8-)))

    3. Nobody has done this yet? Well, damn. That is nuts, I thought I was only pointing out the obvious! I don't know about wireless cameras, as they would require a lot of battery to power them all day long putting out a wi fi signal, but a wired camera, hell, those are readily available, and with a 70 or 80 foot wire, I would think any trucker ought to be able to splice one in, route it from cab to trailer, and be done mounting it in an hour. As for viewing, I don't know, but they ought to be usb connected to a tablet, and those aren't too bad. a couple hundred bucks. If I were a trucker, I'd do it, regardless of insurance or NTSB, just like a dash cam, flares, and such. It would be part of my travel kit. Me make big bucks? That would be great, but I do this site and 9 others free, and in 9 years, haven't made a penny. I think that shows I'm not smart enough to make money at cool things

  2. To be honest with you, I have no idea if there is such a product or not. For sure wireless survilance cameras are widely available, even in waterproof design. On second thought: There is no need for batteries, power is available on the trailer. USB is out of question, because of the limited cable lenght. I think wired cameras inpractical in general... But of course we just playing with the idea...
