Having a bad day at work? It could be worse, you could be due for a reaming for not paying attention to where the underground lines are, or for not getting the area searched first with sensors

  1. I do construction work involving trenching and excavation.

we always have utility locate people come out and mark the utilities,

if we are lucky, they find half of em.

we recently were excavating an underground tank and "found" a 10 inch 300 PSI water main that was NOT marked.

once we were drilling environmental monitoring wells on the shoulder of a road, we would drill 2 or 3 wells, test the soil and water from the wells (which would take about 90 days ) then depending on the results, go back out and install 3 more wells depending on which direction the contamination was heading.

on our SEVENTH visit to this site to drill wells, every time which had the utilities located, and none were ever marked on this shoulder, we hit a major phone line.
we always call 811 and have the utilities located on the right of way and located on private property by a contractor, they miss alot.
youd think that nowdays, cities would know where all the utilities are buried, but most have no clue.
