the Rallye des Gazelles starts next week

As part of the entry fee all the drinking water will be provided by the organizers, and this is of course bottled water.

But bottled water means plastic bottles, and reducing plastic waste is a current newsworthy topic, along with which, as you know, the rally prides itself on being environmentally friendly.

Over the course of the competition, the organisers expect to generate 25,000 empty plastic water bottles. These bottles are collected by the Coeur des Gazelles team who will be working along side the rally and taken to build structures for remote communities.

The bottles are filled with sand and made into building blocks to create useful shelter for the communities. These bottle structures are solid, quick to build and well insulated.

The bottles are also eco friendly as they do not use up the vital resources of water or energy that would be used in producing bricks to create the same structures. They are also durable as a plastic bottle takes somewhere between 100 and 1000 years to decompose.
